MOSWOC high energy electron forecast for geostationary orbit
Forecaster summary - Issued 2020-12-30T00:26:44
Heightened solar wind speeds appear to have driven an increase in the high energy electron flux (greater than 2MeV), which is currently varying between background and moderate levels, closely approaching the high (1e3pfu) threshold. The trend over the last two days has been for the peak values to be approximately the same. A similar peak is likely on day 1 (30 Dec), with a very slow decline then forecast as the high speed stream from coronal hole 09 wanes.
24-hour electron fluence values are forecast to show a slight rise, but then level off by day 3, with a decline expected to become evident by day 4. Fluence values are forecast to remain at background to moderate levels.
