MOSWOC high energy electron forecast for geostationary orbit

Forecaster summary - Issued 2018-06-01T00:26:46

High energy (greater than 2MeV) electron counts in the Van Allan belts were at background to moderate levels yesterday (31st May), but are likely to see significant reductions at times on day 1 (1st Jun) due to anticipated geomagnetic activity. With a decreasing chance of geomagnetic storms from day 2 (2nd), electron accumulation is forecast through the rest of the forecast period, with flux reaching high levels, and integrated electron fluence levels also rising. By day 3 (3rd), fluence is expected to have reached active levels (greater than 1e8 cm-2 sr-1 day-1), this is supported by persistence, with a similar trend observed on the previous rotation, although there is some uncertainty due to the current size and location of coronal hole 98.
