MOSWOC high energy electron forecast for geostationary orbit

Forecaster summary - Issued 2018-08-26T00:17:38

The flux of high energy electrons (greater than 2MeV) was at mainly background to moderate levels, though briefly reached high levels (greater than 1000pfu) in the second half of the period, with a peak flux of  1900pfu observed at 25/1850UTC.  Flux levels are likely to show a similar pattern during the forecast period, persisting at mainly background to moderate levels but perhaps briefly reaching high levels at peaks of the diurnal cycle.  Flux levels may temporarily be reduced to background levels at times today (26th) during periods of enhanced geomagnetic activity, but should then return to follow the diurnal cycle from tomorrow (27th) onward.

The corresponding 24-hour electron fluence showed a declining trend in the past 24 hours, dropping below the Active threshold early in the period. The fluence is expected to show a further slight decline today (26th) in response to reduced flux levels at times, perhaps levelling off later in the forecast period, but most likely remaining below the Active threshold (1e8 integrated pfu).
